Sandra Schmirler
Canadian curler Sandra Schmirler won three World Curling Championships and was better known as Schmirler the Curler. She also won a gold medal in the inaugural Curling event at the Winter Olympics.
Schmirler was diagnosed with cancer in 1999 after a tumor was discovered behind her heart. Despite all efforts to treat her illness, Schmirler sadly passed away while she was sleeping in 2000. She was 36 years old.
