4 Potential Landing Spots for Deshaun Watson
NFL | February 17, 2021
Houston Texans All-World Quarterback Deshaun Watson has finally come right out and admitted that he wants out of Houston. The 25-year old is a dynamic playmaker and any NFL team would be thrilled to acquire him as their new starting QB! Keep reading to see 4 potential landing spots for Deshaun Watson.
1. San Francisco 49ers
The Niners have said that they are sticking with Jimmy G for at least one more year. However, do not believe everything you hear! San Fran has some cap space available and trading away Garoppolo would free up more than 20 million in additional cap space.
The Niners could sweeten the pot for Houston by sending Jimmy G and their 12th overall draft pick for the upcoming NFL Draft. Watson would seem to be a natural fit with 49ers Head Coach Kyle Shanahan, who prefers a balanced offensive attack with plenty of runs. This offensive philosophy would keep Watson from getting hit so much, which would be a welcome change after getting brutally punished in Houston all those years.
2. Denver Broncos
All football fans know that Denver President of Football Operations (and legendary Hall-of-Famer) John Elway has been foaming at the mouth to land the next great Bronco QB! Watson would make plenty of sense in Denver because of all the weapons the Broncos possess at wide receiver and tight end. Could you imagine Watson throwing bullets to Jerry Jeudy, Courtland Sutton, and Noah Fant? Sounds like a match made in heaven!
Also, do not forget that Denver could offer Houston the number 9 overall draft pick in the upcoming draft! The Broncos could also throw in QB Drew Lock, who has shown flashes of brilliance but has not quite put it all together. Watson’s former teammate, Kareem Jackson, has shared with the media that Deshaun has shown a great deal of interest in playing for Denver.
3. Miami Dolphins
This all depends on how dedicated the Dolphins are to former Alabama star QB Tua Tagovailoa. Tua looked good at times during his rookie season, but veteran QB Ryan (the Beard) Fitzpatrick proved to be the better option for Miami even though he is 67 years old (kidding LOL)!
Are the Dolphins willing to stay patient and see how Tua develops? Or, does Head Coach Brian Flores want to win and win NOW? Any trade package would probably have the Fish shipping Tua and a boat load of 1st round picks to Houston.
4. New York Jets
It is probably a bit shocking to see the Jets make this list as Watson is trying to avoid running for his life due to a poor offensive line. However, several rumors have surfaced saying that Watson would consider moving to the Jets. The Jets would not be much of a step-up for Watson, but he may be so desperate to get out of Houston that he would not veto a trade.
The Jets keep popping up in these trade rumors because they could offer 4 1st round draft choices over the next 2 years! If Houston really wants to rebuild, acquiring (4) 1st rounders is a good start. Also, Sam Darnold has shown some promise and may be able to get the Texans through some rebuilding seasons.
